The Thin Dark Boy is a song by Jack Rusher, published here Friday, April 16, 2004. It is part of Audiovisuals.
A traditional Irish melody.
One of my stunningly talented friends, the concert violinist Michi Wiancko, asked me about traditional Irish fiddle music: do I like it and do I like to play it, and, of course, I said yes and yes. She brought over a book of jigs, reels and airs, we picked a few nice pieces and I wrote some guitar parts to accompany the fiddle melodies.
We enjoyed playing together so much that I bought a better acoustic guitar (any excuse, really) and deployed a microphone with which to capture the music. Our first recording in what will hopefully be a series, all of them dedicated to my wee Irish mother, is the traditional air An Buachaill Caol Dubh (The Thin Dark Boy).
Enjoy, mum.
